‘Dream’ is the last song in Park Hyo-shin’s 7th album ‘I am a dreamer’ (2016) which was a collaboration with music director Jung Jae-il of Squid Game and Parasite fame.
Park Hyo-shin (박효신) may be known for dramatic and powerful songs like ‘Wildflower‘ and ‘The Day’ – and for performing them live so exceptionally – but ‘Dream’ (꿈) reveals a difference side of the artist. It’s a quieter, more private inner voice, as if it could just as be a prayer at the bedside, a journal entry at the end of the day, or a song to sing to oneself to sleep.
Whatever it may be, Park Hyo-shin lends his voice and words through ‘Dream’ to those who want to be honest with ourselves about our vulnerabilities, our hopes, and our dreams.
Please note: The translation below is based on my own interpretation of the lyrics and is not an official English translation of the song provided by the artist.
Translated lyrics to ‘Dream’ (꿈)
The dream I want to dream tonight
Is a dream without sadness
The dream I want to dream tonight
Is a dream I won’t remember
The reason my small heart keeps beating
Is that small star of mine has yet to fade away
The dream I want to dream tonight
Is a dream of love gone by
The dream I want to dream tonight
Is a dream there’s no waking from
The reason my small heart keeps beating
Is that small star of mine has yet to fade away
The dream I want to dream tonight
Is a dream of childhood memories
The dream I want to dream tonight
Is a dream that’s like a miracle
With the chilly wind blowing from afar
My lost memories are gathering
A flower tired of waiting for spring and couldn’t blossom
But my tomorrow is coming to me still
The reason my small heart keeps beating
Is that small star of mine has yet to fade away
The dream I still haven’t dreamt of
Is a dream without you in it
The dream I still haven’t dreamt of
Is a dream that isn’t a dream
