Ballad singer Jung Seung Hwan’s (정승환) song “If It Is You” (너였다면) is one of the original soundtracks to the 2016 Korean drama “Another Miss Oh” (또! 오해영).
Better translated as “If It Were You,” the lyrics speak to how agonizing it can be to love someone who doesn’t love you back and doesn’t understand how much it must hurt for you.
“If it were you, how would you feel… If crazy times like these were to become your own”
The song is a great example of Jung Seung Hwan’s potential as a ballad singer and remains as one of his most popular songs (per artist’s Spotify page in February 2026). But his ability to capture listeners with his raw, emotional delivery was clear even before his debut when he sang unplugged in the early stages of the music competition show “K-pop Star” in 2014. Despite being only 18, he was praised by the judges (the founders of entertainment agencies JYP, YG and Antenna) and the song’s original singer for his maturity and captivating delivery.

Translated lyrics to “If It Were You” (너였다면) by Jung Seung Hwan (정승환)
Why is it so hard for you
to see how hard I’m trying
It surprises me how much it can hurt
from just one person
At the end of a hard day
even in my dreams, it hurts
If it were you, how would you feel
If crazy times like these were to become your own
If you were as alone and shattered as me
Would you realize it then
Filled with pain that could
burst through my heart
And how much I want you
If I were you, I would just keep loving me
My heart endlessly fears
everything that surrounds me
Who says you’ll be happy
when you fall in love
To someone who only gets to
love you from afar
If it were you, how would you feel
If crazy times like these were to become your own
If you were as alone and shattered as me
Would you realize it then
Filled with pain that could
burst through my heart
And how much I want you
If I were you, I would just keep loving me
I know you’ve answered me already
The meaning of an answer without an answer
Knowing that I’m still lingering
Pretending that I don’t
Do you know what I’m like these days
I can’t sleep
or even swallow anything
Would you realize that I’m breaking down
from beside you
Though I’m dying inside
and you won’t be with me
Though I know you don’t feel the same way
I don’t think I could
let you go
